As a student of Hospitality and Catering Studies you will initially take part in taught sessions to allow you time to enhance and develop your skills and understanding.
In our training kitchen you will learn and practice your basic catering skills before moving on to hone your skills in the Main Industrial Kitchen, taking part in sessions such as bakery skills where you focus on weighing, measuring and piping.
Hospitality & Catering Studies, sessions in the Expanse Learning and development Hub and combined work placements will help you to learn about hospitality, practicing how to meet and greet customers, taking orders and serving drinks.
Qualification & RARPA
Where appropriate you can gain accreditation from Preparing for Work at Entry levels to Level 1/2 in Retail or Business Administration Skills. Qualifications include:
- Edexcel BTEC L1/2Qualification from the skilled for life framework in (Catering and Hospitality)
- Individual units from Edexcel BTEC Qualification from the skilled for life framework in
- Pearson BTEC Entry Level 3 Award in Vocational Studies
- Pearson Edexcel Functional Skills Maths and English EL1/2/3 and L1
You will also be developing your communication, social, independence, reading, writing and numeracy skills within sessions and in discrete maths and English sessions if appropriate.
Employability skills are embedded through all your sessions in Hospitality and Catering Studies and you will also have discrete session ranging from time-keeping and the importance of uniform in the industry through to careers options and CV writing.
The Hospitality and Catering Studies programme area has strong links with local and national businesses and as a result is able to offer external work experience placements which will boost your confidence in work and social situations.
